Processor communicates directly to RAM, RAM communicates with a hard drive. Due to the difference in speed, Processors cannot communicate with main storage directly due to difference in speed.
Software are collections of programs and related data which tell the system what to do and how to do them.
OS provides a UI, now commonly GUI.
acts as a platform for apps to operate on (hardware - software interface)
provides translator software to translate high level language into machine code (source code to object code)
provides utility software that allow users to make changes to the system
Utility software provides users with the ability to change the system to a certain extent
Programs (applications)
Common = iPhoto, Word, MYOB, Excel
Generic = Word, Excel
Common apps are used widely all around the world
Generic apps have a range of uses / can be applied in multiple different applications
Custom apps are designed to perform essentially a single unique task/purpose
Off-the-shelf software is software that you can buy in shops and are often more generic
Off the shelf software can have lots of features and support but you have to pay for features that you most likely won't use.

This is a good blog but don't have big or at least not tall images at the top try to make them banner / letterbox shape so people are not having to scroll past them for you blog. AND Don't publicly acuse your teacher of killing innocent animals!!
